From June 19, the “Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh: Exhibition” exhibition will be open to the public at the ION Orchard in Singapore. The all-digital showcase chronicles the creative conversation between the French Maison and Nike as envisioned by the late maven Virgil Abloh, for the luxury brand’s Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection.

The show’s last stop was in New York, a major city and hub of the West. Along the same lines, the decision to hold the expo in Singapore is perhaps a nod to the country’s traditional role as a regional node connecting to the region and even the world. Additionally, Singapore is one of the first countries in Asia to ease Covid-19 restrictions, making it the preferred destination for brands to hold shows and travelers to visit.

Similar to the inaugural presentation in New York, where an in-depth introduction to the 47 sneakers created by the designer will be presented, the exhibition in Singapore will take a digital turn. Screen panels in the mirror space reveal the creative conceptualization of the collaboration while Abloh’s signature cloud-like patterns decorate the walls and floor.

A prolific designer who has managed to combine streetwear and luxury, Abloh’s ingenuity is highlighted through a central digital showcase where the predominant know-how in his creations for the House is showcased. Each pair of sneakers fused the original Air Force 1 design codes and was crafted with the House’s finest Louis Vuitton leathers, materials and insignia paired with Abloh’s unique visual grammar. The place of manufacture of these now iconic sneakers is the Louis Vuitton shoe workshop in Fiesso d’Artico, Italy.

Another of Abloh’s visions is to build bridges between countries and cultures through the language of fashion. Louis Vuitton is the central connection point, just as New York and Singapore are melting pots of cultures. To illustrate this grand vision, a graphic globe structure, similar to the sculptures exhibited in New York, is displayed alongside the exhibit. “The globe is representative of the unifying motifs that Virgil Abloh has reiterated in his collections, runways and images,” the brand said in the accompanying press release.

Those interested can expect a mix of lows and mid tops in various colors and styles, from all white to rainbow and metallic gold. There are also the multicolored patchwork renderings, which pay homage to Abloh’s distinctive graphic language.
