Anterix and Ericsson Connect Utilities over 4G and 5G Across North America with FCC Certified Radios
[ad_1]
Ericsson and Anterix, the largest contiguous licensee of 900 MHz spectrum in the United States, are working together to deploy innovative private network operating models in the utility segment. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently certified the Ericsson 2212/2012 radio in this spectrum, which will complement Ericsson’s existing deployments with the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CRBS) as utilities increasingly look to private cellular networks to build more reliable, secure networks, and flexible digital infrastructures to adapt to current and future critical use cases.
The radios will operate on 4G / LTE with the option to seamlessly switch to 5G in the future. The Ericsson Radio 2212 from the Ericsson Radio System range is a small and lightweight multi-standard outdoor macro radio offering excellent radio performance and power efficiency for wide area 3GPP radio products, which can be combined with ‘other solutions for a flexible and scalable installation. .
“Modernizing critical infrastructure will be critical as utilities seek to digitize their operations to address a new distributed energy reality, while staying one step ahead of cyber threats and other potential disruptions,” said Ryan Gerbrandt, Chief Operating Officer of Anterix. “Private networks using 900 MHz and empowered by leading technology companies like Ericsson can provide utilities with the tools to help them achieve these goals. “
As utilities around the world seek to digitize their operations and create a more agile infrastructure, Ericsson continues to be a full partner in helping utilities scale their networks to 4G / LTE wireless broadband. with a clear path to transition to more advanced use cases with 5G.
Ericsson has deployed, operated and commercially tested critical and secure network solutions with investor-owned utilities (IOU) and rural municipal utilities across North America, such as Southern Company (Southern Linc), Consolidated Edison Company and Newport Utilities to name a few. . This collaboration with Anterix will continue to contribute to the deployment of critical networks with utilities.
“We see private cellular networks as the primary catalyst for utilities in their digital transformation journey to meet a multitude of use cases, both current and future,” said Koustuv Ghoshal, vice president and head of utilities, energy and industry at Ericsson North. America. “This provides the opportunity not only to own and operate an asset that complies with global 3GPP standards and which universally benefits all business segments of utilities, but also to meet critical needs for safety, security, resilience and flexibility. Having provided commercial private-LTE network infrastructure to large and small utilities across North America, we look forward to partnering with utilities on their network modernization journey.
Ericsson has a long history of developing multi-technology solutions ready to switch from 4G to 5G without network disruption.
